Cold chain for cryopreserved biologics in clinics

How clinics plan receiving, temporary storage, and escalation for cryopreserved perinatal biologics shipped on dry ice.

Reviewed 2026-10-27

Before the shipment leaves

Confirm storage class on the PO, freezer capacity if required, and who will meet the courier during the delivery window.

Ask the supplier for the validated shipper description and maximum transit time claimed for the SKU.

At the receiving door

Check dry-ice remainder against instructions and move vials to qualified storage without delay. Record lot IDs before the shipper leaves the bench.

If temperature indicators or ice levels are out of range, quarantine and contact the supplier for written disposition.

After approval

Update inventory with lot, expiration, and storage location. Include backup power and alarm checks in the same quality system as other cold inventory.

Keep contacts current when physicians or sites change so shipping and documentation still route correctly.
