Two taxonomies, one vendor standard
Pain medicine practices and physical medicine and rehabilitation practices are enumerated under separate taxonomies in NPPES, but the vendor qualification questions tend to be similar across both: what documentation accompanies a lot, how traceability works, and who at the supplier can speak to a physician about those records. Multi-physician pain groups sometimes centralize this review with an office manager or medical director rather than leaving it to individual providers.

Documentation to request
Before adding a new biologics vendor, practices commonly ask for the certificate of analysis for the specific lot, a donor eligibility summary, and confirmation of the sterility testing and quarantine-release process a lot went through prior to shipment.
- Certificate of analysis, by lot
- Donor eligibility summary
- Lot release record confirming sterility testing was complete before release
- Supplier characterization data for exosome formats, including particle and marker data, on request
Receiving shipments in the Mountain West
Cryopreserved formats are stored at -80 degrees C and shipped overnight on dry ice in validated containers to the clinic; staff receiving a shipment should move it to storage promptly. Lyophilized formats, including the freeze-dried Wharton's jelly product and both lyophilized exosome products, do not require cryogenic storage and can simplify receiving logistics for a practice without a dedicated cold-chain freezer.
Account setup and regulatory verification
Opening an account requires a verifiable NPI and designation of who on staff is authorized to order. Precision Biologics does not provide clinical, dosing, or procedural advice; exosome products are not FDA approved, and whether a given use of a Wharton's jelly product qualifies under 21 CFR 1271.10 is a question for the practice's medical director and counsel, in consultation with the Utah medical board as needed.
FDA has stated there are no FDA-approved exosome products. Exosome products are generally regulated as biologic drugs under section 351 of the Public Health Service Act, not as 361 HCT/Ps. Purchase and clinical use decisions belong to the physician with their own regulatory counsel.
These products are not FDA approved or licensed for any disease or condition. Information is for licensed healthcare professionals and is not medical or legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
Can a multi-physician pain group use one account for several providers?+
An account is tied to a verifying NPI, and the practice designates which staff are authorized to place orders under that account once setup is complete.
Do you provide the characterization data for exosome products?+
Supplier-reported characterization data, including particle concentration and marker identification, is available to verified accounts on request.
What happens if a shipment arrives and staff are not immediately available?+
Cryopreserved shipments arrive on dry ice in validated containers designed to maintain temperature during transit; staff should still move the product to its designated storage as soon as possible after arrival.
